Academic writing:
The students get acquainted with the basic principles of academic writing in English. The course covers the following topics: research techniques and academic sources, reading for academic purposes, citation/referencing styles, identification of problems and the formation of (working) hypotheses (e.g. SWOT analysis), methods for the evaluation of hypotheses, analytical and synthetic reasoning, structure of the academic paper (introduction, literature review, methods, findings, conclusion, abstract).
Presentation techniques:
Students get acquainted with the basic features of spoken discourse and the differences between the spoken and the written mode. Special attention is given to different forms of public presentations of academic work. Students acquire public-speaking techniques. They learn elementary both rhetorical and argumentation skills of spoken discourse.
