The course covers a cross-section of instrumental and vocal music poetry (lyrics) with an emphasis on the second half of the 19th century.

It discusses the history of the genres of the lied and piano miniature in the light of individual compositional poetics:

Schubert – Schumann – Brahms – Reger – Wolf
Faure – Debussy – Ravel – Franck
By learning about the historical context, philosophical and aesthetic backgrounds and personal styles of the composers, students become familiar with the musical analytical tools of the considered compositional poetics.

Students learn about and aural identification of the particularities of personal styles of selected composers of this period.
