Asst. Prof. Dr. Ana Svetel

She was born in 1990 in Maribor, where she completed high school and conservatory of music. In 2012, she graduated at the Department of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology with the thesis on multiculturalism in Norway. In 2016, she finished her MA studies with the thesis Names between invention and convention: Naming practices among mixed families in Iceland. As a junior research fellow, she works on her PhD dissertation Weather, time, light and darkness in social dimensions of Icelandic landscape. She participated in numerous study exchanges, research visits and fieldworks (University of Bergen, University of Stockholm, University of Vienna, University of Iceland) for which she was granted many scholarships (Zois scholarship, Erasmus scholarship, scholarship of Norwegian Financial Mechanism). She is a co-chair of the Young Scholars Working Group within SIEF, a member of editorial board of the Bulletin of the Slovene Ethnological Society's Collection and a member of editorial board of the journal Kula. As a teaching assistant, she taught practical classes in Methodology of ethnology and cultural anthropology in the previous years, whereas in the year 2020/21 she conducts practical classes in Anthropology and writing. Apart from study and research, she is active in the fields of literature and music, she published two literary works and is a member of Slovene Writers' Association.
